Miss Wales Ellie Corcoran attended the Local Hero Awards in Birmingham on October 17, joining the community in honouring individuals whose courage, kindness and dedication have made a lasting difference. Held at the National Conference Centre, the awards brought together people from all walks of life to shine a light on everyday heroes whose contributions often go unnoticed. The awards recognise people making a difference across healthcare, volunteering and the uniformed services, as well as children who have shown exceptional courage. Categories including Charity Champion, NHS Hero, Child of Courage and the Good Neighbour Award reflect the many ways people strengthen their communities and support those around them. The evening also raised support for LoveBrum, the event’s official charity partner for 2026. The Birmingham-based organisation works with small local charities and grassroots community projects, helping them create positive change across the city. Funds raised through the awards will support local initiatives, ensuring the event’s impact reaches beyond the celebration and benefits communities directly. Reflecting on the occasion, Ellie said, “So often, the people making the biggest difference are the ones who do it quietly, without expecting anything in return.” She highlighted the importance of recognising these unsung heroes and inspiring kindness through everyday actions. As she prepares to represent Wales at Miss World 2027 in Tanzania next September, her attendance offered a powerful reminder of the value of community involvement and of celebrating those whose actions inspire positive change.
